GASLAND's Winter-Ready Outdoor Water Heater Guide

As winter approaches, it's time to prepare your outdoor water heater for the cold season. Freezing temperatures can pose a real threat to your equipment, and that's why GASLAND brings you a step-by-step guide on winterizing your outdoor water heater:

1. Turn Off The Water Supply

Locate the water inlet valve and shut off the water supply to your GASLAND water heater.

2. Drain the Water Heater

- a. Connect a garden hose to the drain valve, typically located near the bottom of your GASLAND water heater.

- b. Place the other end of the hose in a suitable drainage location, such as a floor drain or a bucket.

- c. To facilitate the drainage process, open the pressure relief valve at the top of the water heater to allow air into the tank.

- d. Carefully open the drain valve to let the hot water flow out, but be cautious as it can be scalding.

3. Flush the Tank

- a. After you've successfully drained the water, flush the tank with fresh water to eliminate any sediment or debris that may have accumulated inside.

- b. Close the drain valve and remove the hose.

4. Remove or Protect Outdoor Components

- a. If you have outdoor components like water lines or hoses connected to your GASLAND water heater, disconnect and drain them.

- b. Insulate any exposed pipes connected to the water heater using pipe insulation or heat tape to prevent freezing.

5. Insulate the Water Heater

For extra protection, you can insulate your GASLAND water heater itself using a water heater blanket or by wrapping the unit in insulation to help maintain its temperature.

6. Cover the Water Heater

Cover your entire GASLAND water heater with a waterproof, insulated cover designed to protect it from frost and cold weather.

7. Monitor Periodically

- a. Throughout the winter months, periodically check your GASLAND water heater to ensure it's not accumulating ice or snow on top of the cover.

- b. Be ready to remove any excess snow or ice if necessary.

By diligently following these steps, you'll ensure that your GASLAND outdoor water heater remains in excellent working condition when the warmer weather returns. Remember to consult your water heater's manual for manufacturer-specific guidelines, as the process may vary slightly depending on the model.

Now you're ready to face winter confidently, knowing that your GASLAND outdoor water heater is safely tucked away until spring.
